Some information on teeth whitening
Who doesn’t want a bright smile? It makes you look good and projects an image of self-confidence. However, certain habits such as smoking or certain foods like red wine, blackberries and coffee change the colour of teeth, causing them to lose their shine. Moreover, as we age, our teeth become darker. In these cases, a whitening treatment by a dental specialist could be a good solution!
It should be noted that tooth whitening can only be performed on a natural, healthy tooth enamel. The treatment will not affect veneers, composite fillings, crowns or bridges.
Whitening is contraindicated during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Smoking should be avoided during the whitening treatment, as the peroxide (contained in the bleaching agent) increases the carcinogenic risk caused by smoking. Some patients may also experience temporary tooth sensitivity, but these effects disappear a few days after the treatment is completed.
Your teeth whitening specialists
The professionals at Lapointe Dental Centres can help you whiten your smile. With proper care and regular visits, your smile will last for years.
The chairside treatment takes place in the office of your Lapointe Dental Centre professional. Simple and quick, this type of teeth whitening is performed in a single session lasting just over an hour.
A whitening product is then applied to the teeth and activated with a light. A few subsequent applications of the whitening product at home will maximize the effect of the treatment.
Treatment at home
Teeth whitening can also be done at home. The treatment consists of wearing mouth trays that have been filled with a whitening gel. The product can be applied during the day or at night, depending on your lifestyle. Your teeth whitening specialist will be able to help you choose the formula that best suits you.
The day treatment consists of two 30-minute applications, morning and evening. The night formula consists of one application of at least 4 hours at bedtime. In both cases, the result will be radiant.
The professionals at Lapointe Dental Centres can offer you the touch-ups you need to preserve your smile’s glow.
Laser teeth whitening
Many people refer to “laser teeth whitening” because they confuse it with the light that activates the whitening product when the treatment is performed in the dental chair. However, this terminology is incorrect.
