No doubt, you’ve been told over and over to brush your teeth at least twice a day. If you do, congratulations! However, do you remember to floss? The five minutes it takes to floss could make the difference between losing and saving your teeth.

The reason most patients give for not flossing is that it causes their gums to bleed. This is perfectly normal. When you first start flossing, your gums are more likely to bleed due to inflammation caused by the plaque that you haven’t been able to reach with your toothbrush. Flossing daily allows you to dislodge the plaque, so the bleeding will go away.

We recommend that you floss before bedtime to prevent plaque from staying on (and between) your teeth all night long. Watch this short video to learn more about proper flossing technique.
