Teething

La poussée dentaire n’est pas vécue de la même façon pour tous les bébés. Pour certains, tout se passera sans souci alors que pour  d’autres bébés, ce sera une période plus difficile.

Not all babies experience teething in the same way. For some, the process is relatively uneventful, whereas for others, teething is a more difficult time.

The following are some signs and symptoms of teething:

  • Red, swollen gums
  • Red face (especially the cheeks)
  • Significant drooling
  • Altered sleep and appetite
  • Cranky, irritable mood
  • Constant biting

These signs and symptoms may also be accompanied temporarily by fever and diarrhea.

Here are a few tips on how to soothe your baby during this time:

  • Use a teething ring (you can even refrigerate it)
  • Run a cold spoon over the gums to numb the pain for a few minutes
  • Give the baby bread or crackers to chew on
  • Give the baby cool water in a bottle

Sometimes, none of these tips do the trick. In that case, the best remedy may be a good cuddle! Thankfully, teething only lasts a short period of time.

If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s teething, do not hesitate to call your dental professional, who will be pleased to answer all your questions.
